OpenCoffee Bradford comes to Sheffield

Following the success of the OpenCoffee networking events we have held in Bradford, bmedi@ are running another event on Thursday 4th December 2008 in SHEFFIELD.
The emphasis of OpenCoffee is very much on the internet and new media industries etc. These free events are informal and see a range of technology entrepreneurs, designers, bloggers, developers, geeks, investors and anyone else who’s interested in digital media and technology exchanging ideas and striking up relationships that would otherwise never have flourished.
The philosophy of OpenCoffee is very much of an Open House of ideas and people.
OpenCoffee SHEFFIELD, is being sponsored by bmedi@ and the Showroom Sheffield. The event will take place on Thursday 4th December 2008 at The Showroom Sheffield from 10am to midday. The Showroom is located at Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2BX.
Please note it is only a two minute walk from the train station to the venue and various car-parks are available in the area.
The event is open to anyone who is interested in the region’s digital, creative and new media industries. You’re welcome to enjoy the coffee, bacon butties, the cakes and the company. Limehouse Films summoned to the House of Commons

Managing director of Limehouse Films, Nick Howard is heading to the House of Commons upon finding out the fabulous news that he is a finalist in the IAB Business Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
Nick was invited to charter Limehouse Films' first seven months of trading to a judging panel of senior IAB executives in London last week after being nominated for the awards. Hearing that he's beaten off national competition he's accepted an invitation from MP Fabian Hamilton to the House of Commons on 21st May for the grand final of the awards.
Said Nick Howard: "It is brilliant to reach the final of such a prestigious award. We've been concentrating so hard on establishing Limehouse in Leeds that it was the last thing we anticipated to happen at this stage of the business and on such a national scale."
2008 BAFTA nominated Limehouse Films was established in September 2007 by Nick Howard and Fabian Wagner who produce corporate communication films, commercials for TV and cinema and museum interactives.

bmedi@ announces two new board appointments

Bradford-based bmedi@, the network for the creative, new media and digital industries in Yorkshire, has announced two new appointments to its board.
Ros Beattie has been named chairman replacing Nick Burton, a director of Keighley-based Open Skies, who is standing down. Ros Beattie, who was previously vice-chairman, is joined on the board by Ian Green, a director of GREEN Communications, Wakefield Media Centre and Bradford-based Fuelmyblog.com, a social network for bloggers.

The New Statesman is looking for entries for its annual New Media Awards: http://www.newstatesman.com/newmedia. Now in their eighth year, the awards celebrate UK new media projects that have made a significant contribution towards society, government or democracy.

We are seeking nominations from professionals and individuals connected with the new media and/or political spheres. The awards are open to any project based in the UK.

CSD ruffles feathers with confused strategy...

The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) has this week ruffled a few feathers not to mention confused many within the creative industry by launching another ‘Design Association’, writes Nick Burton, bmedi@ chair. The latest activity to come out of the CSD is seen by many as a repeat of a previous CSD strategy that gave rise to the Design Business Association (DBA) some 20 years ago.
